Roofing Repair FAQ
When possible, we prefer to perform restorations as they will preserve a portion of your initial roofing investment, typically by retaining the membrane underneath the roofing material, instead replacing the roofing material alone. So long as the membrane is undamaged, this is a good solution to worn out roofing, saving you precious time and money in the process.
We provide a comprehensive maintenance program consisting of a detailed visual examination of the roof system, flashing, insulation and related components to identify any potential trouble areas. Need repairs to your commercial roof? We can help with that too. We’ll make that damage disappear and look like new again.
Rooftop gardens ensure that urbanization doesn’t mean a complete loss of greenery! Sustainable rooftop gardens are a simple way to increase green space and greatly benefit your home and health, especially if you don’t have access to a yard.
Rooftop gardens can incorporate grasses, ornamental trees, flowers and even vegetables for growing your own food. Step one is having the right type of roof to support your greenspace. There are many roof designs that provide excellent space for rooftop gardens!
Some of the lesser known benefits of a sustainable rooftop garden include:
- Filtering out air pollutants with photosynthesis
- Moderating the temperature of a building or house with shade (lower A/C bill, too!)
- Drainage and rainwater recycling by plants
- Dampening of loud city noise
- A beautiful outdoor space to enjoy with family and friends
The more greenery we can invite into our lives, the better. Claw Roofing in Calgary can help you implement your wildest rooftop dreams for your residential or commercial space, contact us at any time!
Birds are smart! They often seek to build nests in places that shelter them from the wind, sun and rain. A common place they choose is the space under your roofline or in your gutters. Birds also peck holes through broken roof shingles or roofing vents in order to build their nests.
One of the best ways to deal with birds repeatedly nesting in your roof is keeping your roof repaired and cleaned. Clear gutters, repaired roofing materials and a clean roof give birds much less opportunity to find nooks and crannies to nest in.
If you are hearing birds in and around your roof often and are concerned, give us a call at Claw Roofing. We can come out to review the state of your roof and recommend any necessary steps to keep those birds out!

People often dread cleaning their gutters but it can really make a difference for the safety of your roof and home!
Leaves, pinecones, twigs and organic matter accumulate and over time and will clog drainage and lead to water damage over time. Commercial roofing, flat roofing and asphalt shingles are all susceptible to possible water damage from improper drainage and pooling. Gutters can also become disconnected or damaged in storms or from snow and ice build-up.
To keep your home in good shape, we recommend cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
When it comes to the actual cleaning, here are a few things to look for:
- Dents, holes, crushed gutters from storms or tree branches
- Detached gutters hanging from the roofline
- Missing gutter elbows
- Leaves, twigs, nests, organic debris, pine needles
- Pieces of shingles in the gutters
- Discoloration or damage to soffits or fascia
Unaddressed leaky skylights can create a host of long-term damage affecting your entire roof and even the health and wellbeing of your family.
Here are some of the things to watch for if you suspect your skylight may be leaking:
- Condensation build-up along the interior of the skylight
- Warped or rusty flashing around the edges of the skylight
- Brown or black water stains along the slope away from your skylight or around any edges of your skylight
- Visible mold (fuzziness or spotting often in black, orange, green or brown)
Lifting, cracked or depressed seals around the skylight

Your cabin roof can use a variety of different roof types and materials! The perfect roof for your cabin needs to take into consideration the elements and weather of your area. If you have heavy snowfall and cold weather, certain roofing materials will serve you better than others.
Some common cabin roofs include:
- Gable Roofs (pitched or peaked roofs, Front Gable, Cross Gable, Side Gable, etc.) can be created with shingle, metal or tile. The vaulted ceiling and steep roof slope are excellent for snow removal; however, these roofs may be subsequent to damage from high winds unless proper braces and precautions are taken.
- Mansard Roofs (Also referred to as a ‘French Roof’) This double sloped option adds visual interest and extra living space potential. Create a garret or full attic for extra living quarters or storage. Excellent if adding square feet down the road or expanding your cabin is in future plans. The lower pitched portions are not ideal for heavy snowfall.
- Hip Roofs – (Great for extra living space and good for snow and the elements) are available in shingle, metal or tile configurations.
- Metal Roofs – An excellent low maintenance option that still looks great!
- Asphalt shingles – Light and inexpensive, and can give the appearance of wood or slate without the extra cost
- Flat Roofs Despite their name, these roofs offer a slight pitch to enable proper rainwater and snow run-off. Perfect for a rooftop patio, garden or extra deck space for you to enjoy.
- And many more!

Roofing Materials We Specialize in
Metal Roofs
Metal roofs consist of various designs of manufactured metal panels. They are installed over a waterproof underlay and offer extreme durability, long lifespan and excellent water and snow shedding properties.
METAL TILES
Appropriate for any weather conditions Calgary may bring, metal tiles look like traditional, natural tile. These metal tiles are made with a wavy, scale-shaped painted look facing out, while on the other side is a protective layer to protect your home from the elements.
Tile Roofs
Tile roofs are manufactured from lightweight concrete or ceramic and are incredibly durable with a lifespan of up to 75 years. They are available in many colours and offer a large selection of profiles. Their heavier weight may make them unsuitable for some applications but does make them particularly resistant to wind damage.
Rubber Roofs
Rubber roofs are manufactured from recycled rubber. They are an incredibly durable product and have a lifespan of up to 75 years. They are available in a wide variety of colours and have an outward appearance that closely matches natural shakes or slate and are much lighter than comparable tile products.
CERAMIC TILES
Ceramic tiles are primarily used for stone, brick, and wooden buildings and have excellent sound and heat insulating capabilities, as well as being fireproof! Ceramic tiles are available in flat, grooved and undulating form and can come in many colours from a glazing effect.
CONCRETE TILES
Concrete tiles are made of cement mortar that is coloured by iron oxide (which has no negative effects on the body or environment) and is therefore considered an eco-friendly roofing material! These heavy tiles are durable, frost resistant and have excellent heart and sound insulation properties.
COMPOSITE TILES
Composite tiles are a new roofing material that has a multiple layer structure, including steel sheets that are coated with weather resistant chemicals and polymers. These durable tiles are great for allowing proper drainage due to their interlocking system and are fire resistant.
